People often ask me to explain the difference between a scale, a mode, and a guitar solo or run. Here’s a quick way to understand it:

Scales give you the notes.
Modes turn those scale patterns into musical colors.
Guitar solos turn those colors into lasting emotional memories.

The hard work begins this month:
Why I have always had respect for Freddie Mercury my whole life. Tracking vocals is harder than guitar because the voice is a natural, variable instrument, while a guitar provides fixed notes. Vocals are also more exposed, so small pitch, timing, or tone inconsistencies and are much more noticeable. They also require emotional performance all at once, which adds extra layers of difficulty (add stress!). You can sort of hide behind your guitar playing and even a lousy solo...can't do that with vocals !
